The move from Colorado and getting back into work life and new jobs slowed the art down a bit, but our first visit to Hawai'i in 2016 I found very transformative and visually inspiring. I began this piece in 2018.
This was completed in 2025. Along the way, 2 other Hawai'ian pieces were being worked on. I don't consider these finished just yet.
In the summer of 2025, I began speaking to Max Grover, of the Grover Gallery in Port Townsend. He was interested in my work, but wanted more examples of recent work, since my super productive days were ten years behind us. I began working with this idea of taking small pieces of The Big Picture, and blowing them up.
These are all three and a half inches square, gouache on paper. Most are untitled.
I loved the abstract qualities these took on. They were still "of" something, derived from a realistic photographic source material, but the scale allowed me to play and deviate from that source.
In October of 2025, Max invited Margot and me to submit pieces for his small works December group show. I submitted three pieces to that.
While I was delivering the December show, Max offered me the back wall for the upcoming February show. I got busy making more small ones, combining some of those into 3 x 4 grid compositions, and creating 6 new relatively large pieces.
The show is up through the end of February
